ABOUT

SEEN is a series of photography workshops at Boys & Girls Clubs designed for kids ages
9-15. The workshop will teach children how to express themselves and share who they are as a person through the lens of a camera. In a series of classes, students will learn photography techniques and storytelling methods to capture their identities.
Workshop One:
In the first session, students will learn key elements of photography, including lighting, framing, composition, and subject matter. Students will apply these skills and concepts to photographing meaningful objects in their environment. Students will then be given an assignment, using the skills taught, to go home and take pictures of people (including self-portraits), places and things that represent themselves in their lives.
Workshop Two:
In the second session, students will present their work to their peers and instructor, sharing the meaning behind their photos, and how the images reflect who they are. With feedback from peers and the instructor, each student will select 5 photos to be featured in a photo book.
Workshop Three:
In the final session, the photo book will be shown to the class for the photographers to see their personal works showcased. After reviewing the book, the class will be given a final assignment to photograph in groups, using an instant Polaroid camera to shoot still lifes and portraits, telling stories together in real time.
By photographing what makes up their identities, sharing images with the class, and seeing their pictures presented in a book, the students will have the opportunity to express themselves and feel fully SEEN.
